Domain Names |
| 123-reg.co.uk |
The first thing you will need if you want a website is a domain, url or website address. I recommend 123-reg as they are cheap and straightforward. I recommend that customers arrange their own domains so that they have complete control over their website. Some web designers buy domains for their clients, but it means that if you want to use a different designer in the future, they own your domain, not you! |
Hosting |
| Hostgator.com |
If you want a website you need to rent space on a server (big computer) so that your site is available 24/7. This is called "hosting" and I recommend Hostgator, you can pay monthly or anually. I recommend that customers arrange their own hosting so that they have complete control over their website. Many web designers arrange hosting for their customers and when they disappear so do the websites and their customers have to start again from scratch! |
